TB GOLD
TB GOLD

This test is used as an aid in the diagnosis of latent & active tuberculosis but does not distinguish between the two forms of the disease. A positive result supports the diagnosis of tuberculosis, however, infection by other micro bacteria like M. Kansasii, M. Szulgai, and M. Marinum can also show positivity. A complete medical and diagnostic evaluation is necessary to confirm/exclude tubercular infection. The magnitude of measured Gamma Interferon cannot be correlated with stage or degree of infection, level of immune responsiveness or likelihood of progression to active disease. False negative results may be obtained if the sample is taken prior to the development of immune response. CDC recommends repeat test after 8-1 weeks in case high suspicion of tuberculosis. Immunocompromised patients can also show false negativity.
