VON WILLEBRAND FACTOR ANTIGEN
VON WILLEBRAND FACTOR ANTIGEN

Von Willebrand factor (VWF) testing is used to investigate excessive or recurrent bleeding episodes or a personal or family history of excessive bleeding. Testing is used to help diagnose von Willebrand disease (VWD) and distinguish between the various types of VWD.VWF is a protein, one of several components of the coagulation system that work together to stop bleeding and form a stable blood clot. If there is insufficient VWF or if it does not function properly, bleeding may be excessive or prolonged. This is called von Willebrand disease and it is the most common inherited bleeding disorder. VWD is separated into different types: Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3. Type 1 is the most common and tends to be milder than the other types. Rarely, VWD may be due to an acquired VWF deficiency
